Blue Harbour ;) Jamaica, West Indies(Yard = front yard/back yard/local area where you hang out). What usually happens around Blue Harbour is the guests get to know the staff and the locals and they end up just hanging around the yard. Under the thatch roof retreat, games of ping-pong, darts, cards and dominos are played with wild abandon late into the night. Not to mention a emptying a few cases of Red Stripe in the process.
Take the kayak up and down the coast or head over to Cabarita island. Miles of reef and the warm waters make snorkeling right out front give you plenty of sea life to investigate. We do have extra fins and masks if you don't have your own.
Hang out by the pool all day. Get wet, read a book, take a nap. You've got both the sun and shade. Fill a cooler with cold ones and you won't have to move at all. The saltwater pool is right on the Caribbean Sea. One of only a handful of saltwater pools in Jamaica. Drained, scrubbed and filled weekly from the sea below. It's a little different at first, but you do get use to it.
Take a day trip by the local fishing boat to Black Sand Beach, inaccessible by land. Journey through chocolate tree forests and abandoned slave plantations to the hidden waterfalls for a refreshing dip.
Hop in Trevor's air conditioned van and visit Jamaica's most spectacular natural harbor. Lunch and swim at the Blue Lagoon. Take a raft ride down the Rio Grande. Or rent mountain bikes and ride down the trails to Annato Bay. Fans of jerk chicken shouldn't miss the original jerk stand at Boston Beach.
Take a ride with Ernie to Ocho Rios and dance to live reggae music at Island Village or the Jamaica Grand Hotel where can drink and party till dawn at Jamaica-Me-Crazy in the Jamaica Grand or Margaritaville at the Village.
The new Island Village entertainment/shopping center in downtown Ocho Rios gives the traveler plenty of action. Home to Margaritaville, Reggae Xplosion museum, numerous shops, movie theaters, sandy beach and the best place to get a latte on the island.
The market is a small fenced area in the middle of down town Ocho Rios (right across the street from Burger King). It's filled with at least a hundred vendors peddling Jamaican crafts, t-shirts, paintings, carvings... Some sales people can get a little pushy but all and all it is a safe and facinating experience.
